You Can Order Eggs Anywhere. So Why Would You?

Every time I bring someone to Sunny House Café, I know exactly what's about to happen.

They sit down, open the menu and immediately start looking at the omelets, pancakes and waffles. They're doing exactly what all of us do at breakfast. We naturally gravitate toward what's familiar.

That's usually when I reach across the table, smile, and slide a different menu in front of them.

“No,” I say. “Look at this one.”

Last week I did exactly that with a friend. She had almost settled on an omelet when I handed her the restaurant's Latin American specialties menu.

“Want to have some fun today?”

She smiled, closed the breakfast menu and ordered the pupusas.

Good choice.

Very good choice.

From the outside, Sunny House Café looks like the neighborhood breakfast spot you've driven past a hundred times. The kind of place where you'd expect crispy bacon, fluffy pancakes and endless cups of coffee.

And you'd be right.

But that's only half the story.

Inside, you'll also find a menu inspired by the flavors of Mexico and Central America. Fluffy scones and buttery croissants share the kitchen with hot-off-the-grill pupusas, handmade chorizo and Huevos Rancheros. American breakfast favorites sit comfortably alongside recipes that have been passed from one generation to the next.

It's an unexpected combination, and somehow it feels completely natural.

One of the reasons for that is the people behind it.

Sunny House Café is the dream of two longtime friends, one from Bolivia and one from Honduras, who spent more than twenty-five years serving breakfast in some of Naples' favorite restaurants before opening a place of their own. Their philosophy is refreshingly simple. Crack every egg to order. Make the chorizo in-house. Prepare the salsas fresh. Take your time and do it right.

You can taste that care in every meal.

If you've never had a pupusa before, this is the place to change that.

Picture fresh corn dough stuffed with melted cheese and Sunny House's house-made chorizo, grilled until lightly crisp on the outside while staying perfectly soft in the middle. Add a spoonful of fresh salsa and a little curtido, the lightly tangy cabbage slaw traditionally served alongside it.

The first bite usually brings the same reaction.

A pause.

A smile.

Then...

“Why have I never had one of these before?”

I've heard that question enough times to know it's coming.

That's why I rarely order the same thing twice.

Of course I have my favorites. The Huevos Rancheros with house-made chorizo are always tempting. But every visit feels like another opportunity to discover something new, and Sunny House Café has never disappointed me.

Maybe that's what keeps me coming back.

Not just the food, although it's wonderful.

It's the reminder that the best meals often begin the moment we stop ordering what we always order.

Now, whenever I bring someone to Sunny House Café, I let them browse the omelets for a minute.

Then I quietly slide the second menu across the table.

Because bacon and eggs will still be there tomorrow.

The pupusas are waiting for today.
